Will Smith Says ‘Oldboy’ Will Be “Nothing Less Than Stunning”

Not a whole lot has come out about the Will Smith-starring, Steven Spielberg-directed remake/adaptation of ‘Oldboy’ since the project’s announcement back in November.  That hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from churning and the fanboy gossip from spreading.

Will Smith recently spoke with MTV news, and he had this to say about the original Manga’s dark and violent nature.

“It’s the thing that Steven was attracted to.  We’re working from the comic and we haven’t done anything other than talk about it. So we’ll see what happens, but he’s not going to do anything that would be less than stunning.”

Only time will tell whether the new version holds a candle to Chan-wook Park’s original adaptation of the Manga.  My money is on “not a chance”, but we’ll see.  Spielberg, and Smith, for that matter, have been pretty hit-and-miss lately.

  1. I like the idea of the Spielberg-Smith combo, but I dunno…I cannot imagine it will be anything like the original Foreign film that American’s feel we just HAVE to remake because the original was not good enough? It is getting old. Not to mention this was pretty flawless. Tough act to follow.

  2. OK, I do not know why that pulled up Jeremy’s name. I (Alli) wrote the previous comment. Sorry for any confusion.

  3. OLDBOY is stunning, the remake is gonna be hollywood gloss and polish. Why not remaster and release the original into American theaters

  4. omg I pray this does NOT happen
