Sundance Review: ‘The Killing Room’

We caught the press screening of ‘The Killing Room’ today and although I was pretty excited to see this movie, I walked out with a pretty bland taste in my mouth.

The movie felt like a pretty generic sci-fi flick along the lines of ‘Cube’ without all the unique killing, and ‘Saw’ without having the torture porn aspect. Essentially I was left not caring about any of the characters, and didn’t feel like anyone turned in a performance that I will remember past my next screening. The film itself is well shot, and the story was pretty decent but ending up being a little slow.

The story basically follows a woman who is implied as a high ranking military psychologist who is brought in on a top secret project to help analyze certain situations. What she comes in for is nothing that she expected. She watches tape of 4 individuals who are undergoing what they believe to be a paid lab test. After they sign all of the papers and turn over all of their personal items things quickly go awry.

I cant go very much further into the plot without completely ruining it for you but if you are a fan of gory deaths along the lines of ‘Saw’ and ‘The Cube’ then you might enjoy this, but I wasn’t a big fan.

Overall Rating 2.5 out 5
