The movie is not supposed to follow a linked plot, but rather a collection of snapshots into the materialistic, Nihlism of the early 80s, where image was everything, money and glam ruled the day, and drugs sex and rock n roll were all over the place. Take the movie for what it is and dont hopr for it to be something it is not, and i'm sure you'd have a different view.
