Scott blogs Sundance Film Festival 2009: Day 1

Welcome to Day 1 of my Sundance Blogging, there may even be more from day 1 later tonight after our first screening.
My first impressions of Sundance are pretty skewed right now, since a) its warmer than normal here and b) the screenings haven’t officially started yet. The buzz is starting to build for certain movies, and you can feel the electricity starting to mount for what will be coming. in the next few days.
Tonight there is one screening, and that’s for ‘Mary and Max’ which is a claymation movie by Adam Elliot.

It tells the simple story of a 20-year pen-pal friendship between two very different people: Mary Dinkle, a chubby, lonely 8-year-old girl living in the suburbs of Melbourne, and Max Horowitz, a 44-year-old Jewish man, who is severely obese, suffers from Asperger’s syndrome, and lives an isolated life in New York City.
The movie looks pretty good, and the last few opening nights at Sundance have been pretty promising so I have high hopes for this one as well.
Today has pretty much just been chill as I am trying to get acclimated to the high altitude, get over my extreme jet lag, and attempting to get over this cold. The next few days will be filled with a bunch of movies, interviews and all kinds of other exciting stuff. I have only come across one celebrity, unless you count the guys I am staying with. For those of you that don’t know the world famous Bob Stencil, do yourself a favor and get to know him. Here is a picture I was able to sneak in and get while he was doing a broadcast:

Stay tuned, and for now here are a few pictures I taken.
