Jackie Chan to Costar in ‘Karate Kid’ Remake

Looks like ‘The Karate Kid’ remake is getting its Mr. Miyagi. Â  Jackie Chan is in final negotiations to star alongside Jaden Smith in the remake to the 1984 classic, according to Variety.

The new film, which will be set in China, follows a bullied youth who learns to stand up for himself from a wise and eccentric mentor. Â  The script is being written by first-time screenwriter Chris Murphy, and it borrows elements from the originals plot.

The film is being directed by Harald Zwart (‘Agent Cody Banks’, ‘The Pink Panther 2′).

What do you think? Â  Is Chan the right choice to fill Pat Morita’s shoes? Â  Like Morita, you think Chan will garner an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Mr. Miyagi? Â  Wow, that was a rhetorical questions. Â  Let us know by commenting below!

  1. This is gonna be fun! I like Jackie Chan, but his accent is kinda funny. :)

  2. I have to admit, while this version will not surpass the classic status of the original ‘Karate Kid’ (JUST the first one!), it still sounds like it’s gonna be cool! There’s just no beating Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi… timeless!

  3. I think they should change the characters name …Pat Morita is the one and only Miyagi….I don’t have a problem refreshing the concept and am looking forward to seeing it. I like Jackie Chan.
