I have seen both transformers movies, Bay has done a good job in recreating characters in both movies.However Soundwave should have had a larger part . Yet in the kitchen sceen when the small tools transform, i think somehow they should have been cast into more parts of the movie instead of bubblebee killing em. As for as Devastor i was greatly diappointed in his role. I hope there will be movie 3 in 2010 or 11 and just maybe by then Bay along with the rest of the recreators will have thier art down to a senice and when new characters are introduce a larger role instead of foucing on the main ones. i would like to predaking and other comblinders in the next movie along with jetfire coming back and overload and Utlra mangus and so on ….

If he is a satelite in the movie, its only going to be cool if he says "yes megatron" in the soundwave voice and rockets into the sky, the theater will pop!

The most important thing about Soundwave, and i must stress this, is not the form he takes, but his role inside the deceptacon hierarchy.
He is an enforcer. Many times throughout the deceptacon history many of them want to either defect or abandon megatron’s evil plans. Typically, soundwave would spy on bad guys just as often as good guys; blackmailing, back stabbing, whatever it took to keep them under megatrons control. He is his number 2. And that is the core reason why.
His form is inconsequential to the storytelling. However his character adds complex interaction with anti-heroes inside the deceptacon ranks. I really hope they retain this quality of soundwave. I want to see him spy on people and kick a** on both sides.

I dont care what anytone else says i like this form of soundwave i think it makes a lot more sense than a 50 foot robot turning into a tape recorder.(i will admit i did like that in the original show)It just doesn’t make sense in the real world. I also heard he will be a triple changer(Robot,Jet,Sattalite).

just stumbled in. soundwave is getting screwed just like all characters from when i was a kid. here’s a list.
wolverine, venom, obi wan, fantastic 4, bumblebee, sabertooth, the hulk, t-800 from t2. the way it’s going unicron will end up being a sweet tour bus that eats bands like linkin park. Galvatron should be in this movie.

Ravage will accompany Soundwave and will have his wolfform.

Transformers in the movies takes shapes from other things they see and they are really capable of altering between forms, depending on how they are set up, however most prefer two or three forms.

Megatrons alternative mode in the animated series was a gun that others, or himself, could fire – this was also the case for Shockwave and Megatrons other version called Galbatron.

Soundwave were to be in the first movie but the character became Frenzy (who transforms himself into a Boombox) because that robot was so different from Soundwave in form of size and such, in the animated series the Transformers could change size when they transformed, something that would look awkward in a real movie.

In addition, they tried to cast him with a transformed mode as a helicopter however they then changed that ones name to Blackout (he, like Soundwave, has an additional robot called Scorponok inside him)

All in all, I think Soundwave will get his just place in the second movie if, and only if, they give him the genuine voice like in the animated series.

While I agree with you that the original Soundwave was a cassette recorder, a) that would not make much sence in the film, since Bay wants “some realism” with the film (I know, asking a lot with a film about transforming robots). B) there was more than 1 Soundwave. He was a Cybertronian jet in one, and a crocodile in another. I was just hoping that they were not going to use the Transformers Animated version of him, a Scion xB.
He is getting a Earthly form as well though, as a Chevy Silverato.

Also, they have to change some of the Transformers to make sense. I don’t think that a 1970’s VW Beetle can outrun a 2007 Saleen S271, which by the way I am glad they made Bumblebee tougher in the film.

Somethings need to be changes for the times. At least Ravage is the same, and we finally get the real Devastator.

Here is to watching it in the Summer.

Yes, I am looking forward to seeing ‘T2′ … however, this is just wrong! Here’s my beef with how Michael Bay has handled the Transformer characters: If you’re gonna take the original characters and totally “F” them up until they’re unrecognizable, then just give these newly created characters their own names. Soundwave, for example, is a boombox… not a jet. While I realize the inherent difficulty in transferring this into a live-action movie, I’d rather NOT see him in the movie and have them simply go with some other character(s). In addition, Soundwave NEEDS to be accompanied by his cassettes, like Ravage. I sure didn’t see any smaller tranforming minions that come with the “new” Soundwave figure, did you? The one exception I’ll give Bay is with Megatron, seeing as he’s a crucial character and having him turn into a handheld gun would be silly. Starscream, I must say, was done perfectly!
