They are Re-Making ‘Night of the Demons’! WHAT???

Melissa:

Are all the movie ideas taken? Lately it seems like all of the great one’s are being re-made. No exception with ‘Night of the Demons’. It seems that they are taking the story from the original in 1988 and changing some small things. The concept is the same… kids are stuck in a house where Angela was throwing her Halloween party. Obviously, the house is still haunted (we’re talking a mansion!!), and the kids cannot escape the house.

It seems that they are trying to re-invent the story, by adding police to bust up the party, and making sure that their cell phones don’t work. It seems that just their presence in the house and not a seance like the original is what awakes the dead.

I really hope that they play this one right. This is one of my favorite 80′s horror films. It seems like the teenage horror movies were better then. The ones of today just don’t have that same, special something that really makes them stand out. Actually, I can’t really thing of one teenage horror film that I have liked in the past 5 years. Sniffle… Sniffle!

Any thoughts? About ‘Night of the Demons’ or remakes in general…

  1. In my opinion, and it’s not worth much, I think that there have been way too many remakes of late. I mean come on, The Hills Have Eyes, My Bloody Valentine, Prom Night, now Night of the Demons. Can’t the Hollywood writers come up with anything orginal. When Saw came out, I was elated. It was something fresh and new, something different. It was fantastic. Then came the American versions of a couple of Japanese films, The Ring and The Grudge. Great movies but again, remakes. For those of us who are horror fans, the best thing to happen was the Horrorfest series of movies. They are original and fresh. Yes some of them may not have the best acting or writing, but they are something different, they are not just remakes of old classics. Let some of those directors and writers out into the mainstream and see what happens. We may have a resurgance of the horror genre.

  2. I feel like the whole remake situation has gotten completely out of hand. It’s to the point where it’s laughable. They announce some of these remakes and I can’t help but think it has to be a joke… The Crow… Robocop… Night of the Demons! I can’t believe that there aren’t enough original ideas and truly talented people in the world that this has to keep happening. I keep hoping it’s a phase in the entertainment business, but when will it end?

  3. Too many shabby remakes lately, but there are those ones that are awesome. Night of the Demons is one of my favorites, it is one that I hate to see remade and destroyed. It was scary with its minimalism. Movies now have too much CGI, the audiences imaginations are lost to it.
