Ray Stevenson is Possible Director of Next ‘Punisher’

‘Punisher: War Zone’ didn’t do so well at the box office this past weekend. Â  It only made $4 million. Â  With a $35 million budget, that might put a damper on any plans for more ‘Punisher’ movies.

However, director Lexi Alexander spoke with Movieweb last week about a possible third ‘Punisher’ movie, or is it second ‘Punisher: War Zone’ movie? Â  It’s all very confusing. Â  Needless to say, she explained that she would not be back for another one and that her ideal candidate for director of the next ‘Punisher’ movie was Ray Stevenson, the star of ‘Punisher: War Zone’. Â  She says he is open to the idea, and that is the direction she is pushing the franchise.

Something tells me with a $4 million opening, plans for another ‘Punisher’ movie are going to fall on deaf ears. Â  Even if Lionsgate funds another one, I doubt they are going to listen to Alexander on who should be in the director’s chair. Â  Who knows, though. Â  Stranger things have happened.

What do you think? Â  Should there be another ‘Punisher’ movie? Â  What is to blame for ‘Punisher: War Zone’ getting such a horrible opening? Â  Let us know by commenting below.

What I hope to see happen is Marvel get the movie rights back and restart the franchise, again. To me, this movie was a mess, by far the best of the three but still a mess. Dominic Wests performance as Jigsaw was really good however he reminded me too much of Two-Face from “Batman Forever.” Also, I kinda got ticked off on what happened to Microchip, they finally bring him into the movie franchise and then kill him off, WTF? They had a lot of potential with this movie and didn’t use it, The subplot with the FBI Agent getting killed was unnecessary and made the movie a mess. Like I said before, I think it would be better if Marvel takes over because they are the only ones who can do justice to their characters, “Iron Man” and “The Incredible Hulk” are clear examples of that. In fact I hope Marvel takes all their properties back because the studios don’t know what they are doing with them, just look at “X-Men” and “Spider-Man,” the studios completely mutilated the franchises and they’re making more!

  2. Ken, how about a ‘spoiler warning’ for those who have yet to see it next time?

  3. Ken Parker says:

Sorry, my bad. I’m still pretty ticked in how it went that I forgot to add that.

  4. Studios tend to be less supportive of female directed effects driven films. It’s still taboo (unbelievably) for female directors to direct any mainstream film, especially a male heavy character film like Punisher. The marketing for the flick was weak.

  5. I thought the marketing for Punisher was actually surprisingly overwhelming. At least in L.A. there were billboards and signs on buses and commercials… more then I expected, but maybe that was just Los Angeles. It’s too bad it didn’t do at least a little better.

  6. OMG!!! The acting sucked, the plot was non-existent, and the accents were bulls@#t. I was the movie this weekend during a canned food drive and I almost asked for my cans back. This one should definitely be on a Worst Movie list.

  7. opps! i ment to say i saw the movie. but it still sucked

  8. Solo Live says:

The MOVIE SUCKED! it really really SUCKED..We were the ones that got Punished..Can you say. we went to the movies and got SHITTED ON.lol

  9. i think they should create next punisher. this war zone has bloody action but still some thing is missing from this movie. but this war zone i admit its much better than the first one or the old one.i hope they will release new punisher. n hoping that there another marvel heroes on it. such as spiderman dare devil or wolverine. just like in the comic.

  10. i liked it to a certain degree. However i agree killing micro didn't make sense and i cried for thomas jane and helsing should've directed this one and shot it fully in nyc. It seems that marvel put small budget movies out when they are waiting for the big ones to come out and this film didn't do too well. I blame marvel.

  11. I was extremely disappointed with this one, The Thomas Jane Version while different to the comic, was the best one of the 3 punisher movies and they should make a sequel to that Punisher movie with John Travolta as Jig Saw.

  12. i think they should make another punisher movie with ray stevenson and i think he'd make a great director for the third film.
