Is a Les Grossman Movie on the Way?

It’s not surprise to anyone who saw ‘Tropic Thunder’ that the biggest surprise of the film was Tom Cruise’s turn as megalomaniacal film producer, Les Grossman.  Robert Downey, Jr’s performance was great, as it was expected to be, but Cruise’s foul-mouthed performance as Grossman was a huge surprise.

Eonline caught up with Cruise about his Golden Globe nomination for ‘Tropic Thunder’.  They didn’t care what the star thought about it.  They wanted to know what Grossman would think about it.

“Les would probably say something unprintable,” Cruise told me today in an exclusive interview. “First thing when you hear about that character is, just what would that guy say? It would have to be something unprintable.”

Cruise went on to talk about the potentiality of a Les Grossman film.

“I’ve talked about doing different videos with the character,” Cruise said. “I’ve started working with Ben [Stiller] on it, and we’ve kind of talked about different things to do. We were gonna do some in our free time, but we haven’t found the free time…yet.”

He doesn’t rule out a full-length feature film centered on Grossman: “He’s a fun character,” said Cruise, who will next be seen in the real-life WWII thriller ‘Valkyrie’. “I gotta talk to Ben, but there could be more to do with that guy.”

What do you think?  Would a Les Grossman movie be too much?  Would you rather see a straight sequel to ‘Tropic Thunder’ that brought back all the (surviving) characters?  Let us know by commenting below!

  1. The minute I walked out of Tropic Thunder I was already contemplating the possibilities of a sequel, but how? The movie is so stand alone, I can’t see another well devised plot that can match the genius that is Tropic Thunder. You can’t go the same route with having them think they’re in a movie because even in their exaggerated reality that would just seem too unbelievable.

A Les Grossman movie would be overkill, but I can definitely see him making more cameos in Stiller’s upcoming projects. Too much of a good thing can be bad, as we’ve all learned in the past via Elektra

  2. Chris Blake says:

I think a good idea for a sequel is just that. How they sattired the movie within a movie they can make fun of Hollywood for doing horrible sequels just to make more profit. A Tropic Blunder sequel or something of that sort would be good. Hopefully Justin and Ben can get something going.
