ATTN Fox: Don’t Mess with ‘Watchmen’

Unless you guys are just itching to enrage every movie geek on the Internet in the world, do us all a favor and quit trying to push back the release date for ‘Watchmen’. We understand that you guys feel slighted, but you are in the business of making movie-goers happy, and who has more influence than movie bloggers on what will happen with a movie?

This movie is already topping every one’s most anticipated movies of 2009 list and for you guys to interject yourselves into it at this point would be a very poor decision. ‘Watchmen’ will be a very profitable movie and that is one department you guys could use some help in right now. The movie geek consensus is that we are all fine with your distributing the movie, but are very fearful for what you might do with the release date.

Please take notice, we are all “Watching” you and how you handle this situation. The backlash would be epic, and you guys would definitely not come out on top. You have officially been warned.

  1. Harsh words, but the point is clear and concise. Please, PlEaSe PLEASE don’t screw with ‘Watchmen’!!!

  2. Kevin Reape says:

I just got chills reading that.. If they see this I don’t know how they could mess with ‘Watchmen’.

  3. I hope we’re not delusional enough to think that movie studios, particularly 20th Century Fox, are in the business of making moviegoers happy. They are in the business of making as much coin as possible, and if recent history has told us anything it’s that very few of the execs working in Hollywood know how to make money while still appeasing fans.

If 20th Century Fox thinks they can make 10 cents more by cutting an hour out of ‘Watchmen’ and making it a PG-13 trainwreck, they will show no hesitation in doing just that. It’s really sad, but you also have to consider the fact that, now, Fox has some egg on their face. They could derail this film on purpose just to spite the people who were behind it when it was WB distributing it.

No matter which way it falls, you cannot deny that it’s a pretty rocky point in time to be a fan of the possibility of a great ‘Watchmen’ movie.

  4. I wonder if Alan Moore is amused by all of this?

  5. We should riot and boycott that dick loving Wolverine

  6. As far as I know Moore’s never been in the vicinity of “happy” with any movie adaption of his work…

It’s ridiculous to even consider that the movie will be anything but a let-down to fans of the graphic novel/comic-it’s just gonna be the degree to which we’re all annoyed and go all Comic Store Guy over the shit bits that will be effected by anything like release dates or editing/”PG-afying”…Read Understanding Comics (http://www.scottmccloud.com/store/books/uc.html) and you’ll have the ammo to argue what you knew all along: it’s phsyically impossible to recreate the experience of reading a comic/graphic novel in another medium..

    /end two cent ramble

  7. Just wait..this movie will come closer than any other comic book adaptation has before. After watching the Japanese trailer I am more than convinced of this! As a fan of the graphic novel/comic I would give a kidney to see this movie right now.
