‘Twilight’ Watch Part 1…

Submitted by Scott on Saturday, 22 November 200815 Comments

Here we are, the day after the ‘Twilight’ opening and yes, the movie did insanely great with $33 million on opening night and Except a big opening weekend, and then give all the fans time to talk about how horrible it was and you are going to see a deadly drop in the millions.

Now that the movie everyone just KNEW was going to be amazing has let more than a few fans down, you are going to see a big backlash. What do I mean? Well lets take a look at the critics reaction:

For those of you that don’t know, a 43% on RottenTomatoes.com is not a good thing. The average rating is a 5.3 out of 10! This is where ‘Twilight’ is failing and other book to movies like ‘Harry Potter’ were so successful. I didn’t read any of the Potter books, but I absolutely love the movies, however the things I have heard from people that haven’t read the books is this movie just sucks. Even the people that have read the books have come up to me and said “You are right, they movie was nothing nearly as good as the book”.

That brings me to my next point, what are the die hard fans saying about the movie? Well I took a deep breath and ventured my way into one of the twilight forums and this is what I found:

There were some things I didn’t like about this movie at all. I thought every single effect was cheap and fake…The sparkling was alright, but it looked fake to me and I kind of excepted more, like I could hardly see it on him. The running and climbing up the tree was just so bad I started laughing. It just wasn’t real! LOL, the running looked like just his legs were moving. And the jumping got me really pissed off because it didn’t look like they were jumping, it looked like they were flying across the room and they just don’t do that.

and from another forum:

“I don’t think I saw the same movie as most of you in the other threads. I thought it was dreadful. If someone watches this film who has NOT read the book, I see no way that person could possibly understand what was going on (this, coming from someone who has read the book twice).”

“I do agree with those that feel Catherine Hardewick did not do a good job. I think her vision for the movie was not honest to the books. I still loved the movie but I did have trouble with not really having a meadow scene, more talking between Bella and Edward about the vampire stuff. There seemed to be no development from Bella and Edwards relationship from the first day they met till the end. They declare undying love but they don’t show it. Needed to be much more between Edward and Bella. I thought all the actors were great, I think they were following the direction of a bad director.”

I got out of there quickly as I did not want to be found out and geez what a crazy world they live in. I even saw one of these:

I can sort of understand why he is hanging around with all these tween girls, but seriously they are all taken, Robert Pattinson holds all of their hearts in the palm of his hand dude, so maybe you shouldn’t wear your “proud” sign too high.

So all in all I will sit back and enjoy the fact that I called all of this over hype back in May, and it feels so good to be right… again.

I don’t think making a call that a movie adaptation of a beloved book wouldn’t live up to the hype is that much of an amazing call… I mean, duh. Especially since it appears the main problems people have with the movie: the sucky special effects, cheapness, not being true to the book; were either obvious from the previews or practically inevitable when it comes to book to film adaptations. I have heard positive things about the movie, mostly disappointment though. I haven’t seen it yet. I’ll be one of the few catching it some time in the next couple of weeks as it’s box office clout falls.

typically no, it’s an obvious call but I got blasted by twilighters for saying it would fail and now I can sit back and enjoy! Don’t steal my thunder Roxy!!

  • Roxy said:

Sorry! I appreciate you and your thunder! I have not been feeling the heat from those “Twits” like you have!

  • Scott (author) said:

    Hahaha! Twits…I like that!

Fangless, bloodless, romatic crap. It will rake in the money and hopefully they invest it in the next film in a professional make-up artist and some special effects(all missing from Twilight). Then maybe the reviews will be better!

Something tells me that won’t happen, Ram. Why spend more money when they can spend the same amount and rake in hundreds of millions. They care about box office, not metacritic ratings.

Is it just me or does this post come off as really cocky and really unattractive-movie-know-it-all elitist? You don’t like Twilight sheesh, get over it! Not all movies are gonna be made into masterpieces by Scorsese.

and dude, no one is gonna think you are less of a “tough” guy if you like it or not, or whether it does good or not.

IMHO I think it’s gonna do fine, it’s not the worst movie of all time and they already greenlit the sequel. Summit Entertainment is a small studio with a big hit on their hands. It’ll just be interesting to see where it all goes.

I hope it comes off that way to more than just you because if not I am not doing my job properly.

Sure they movie will do fine this passed weekend, 70 million, but wait and see how much it drops off next weekend due to word of mouth.

If they arent even pleasing the die hard fans, then how can they expect to please people that havent read the books? And the Sequel was in the works WAY before they movie pushed into Harry Potter’s old release date. Its kind of the same way that all these bullshit “Not another _____ Movies” constantly come out..they are shit but they still get released.

  • Roxy said:

Whoa there Scott, I understand the movie was pretty poopy, but lets not compare a movie made from an original bestselling novel to those “Not another _______ movie” movies. Those unorginal pieces of crap are in a league of their own and I hardly think Twilight can be that low.

  • Scott (author) said:

I was only comparing the way they are constantly getting green lit..not that they are of the same caliber movie.

  • Ram Man said:

Harlo…you said it all in a nutshell.
“Not all movies are gonna be made into masterpieces by Scorsese.”
WHy Not??? I don’t mean Martin needs to make every movie but why can’t they strive to put out a great film everytime? We are now in the Hollywood version of rubberstamping. The movie did good make a sequel! who care about the concept..get a writer to put it together in a few weeks and start shooting. That is what turns out the schlock that we end up bashing here. Today we get 3-5 movies a week instaed of 3-5 movies a month. Quality is suffering…this is the case for the fangless ones. Yes we will have a sequel and if they don’t fix the errors ..it will be hit just as hard as the original!

To be honest, i think they would’ve done better if the director was a good one, who is honest and doesn’t use those cheap effects. They should’ve shown more about the vampirism. Well, it is a vampire movie. And come on! They didn’t even show their undying love for each other like it was in the book. All they did in the movie was show us Edward and Bella staring at each other o_O. In my opinion, Rob and Kristen are actually good actors, but the director made it seem they weren’t.

If they have a sequel, i hope they won’t use someone like Catherine Hardewick = =”

This is just my opinion! Hope no one was offended!

It’s not a vampire movie. It’s a love story that just so happens to involve a vampire.
