Disney’s ‘Earth’ is revealed…

Can I first say that James Earl Jones is BACK!!!! Okay the movie Earth is how Walt Disney Studios willĂ‚  celebrate Earth Day 2009.Ă‚  This is theĂ‚  first feature length nature documentary from its new production banner, Disneynature. This amazing newĂ‚  film from award winning British producer/director Alastair Fothergill, whose credits include the Emmy and Peabody award-winning “Planet Earth†ť seriesĂ‚   and “The Blue Planet.†ť The movie will take audience viewersĂ‚  on an extraordinary tour of our home planet as its never been seen before. The film is narrated by my favorite person who has the voice of God James Earl Jones. I am totally on board for this movie hits theaters. 1. I just saw the trailer for this movie and it seems to be just parts of Planet Earth converged to a movie… Wouldn’t you rather just watch Planet Earth and imagine David Attenborough speaking like Darth Vader?

  2. You took the words right outta my mouth. Disney is clearly just trying to bank on the success of ‘Planet Earth’. I seriously doubt that DisneyNature’s ‘Earth’ will rival ‘PE’ or even be able to come close without recycling some of the absolutely amazing and groundbreaking shots that the various ‘PE’ crews were able to achieve. On top of that, ‘PE’ has a much larger and epic scale than any single feature-length production could ever accomplish.

  3. By the way, I’ve watched the entire ‘Planet Earth’ series from beginning to end a total of three times now. It never gets old!

  4. umm yeah, this is entirely footage from Planet Earth. Who would want to see this, save those who haven’t seen PE or dont know about it or something. What a joke. Though I couldnt help but laugh when I heard JEJ talk

  5. Well, I think the thing that you guys are missing is that the same person who made Planet Earth made this movie (BBC’s Alastair Fothergill). The point is exactly what you have observed, which is to take a series that spans hours of footage and mash it into a reasonable length film. The other idea is to bank on Disney’s name to attract a much larger audience than the Discovery Channel reaches. So I see it this way, Alastair Fothergill, with the help of the new Disneynature branch, is trying to reach as many people as possible with this information and enjoyment gained from nature. So what if the footage is reused? It can’t be replicated for some time as it took BBC millions of dollars and years to collect it in the first place. There are still billions of people who haven’t seen PE, and that’s who this movie is focused toward. Not to mention, this is only the first in a series to come.

All that aside, I totally agree that PE was the original and will probably remain the best version, though it does have quite some uninteresting moments that are bound to be edited out from Earth.

  6. VERY disappointed in this movie – focused too much on the violent part of nature instead of the beauty – which is what I was looking forward to. I did NOT enjoy watching several animals be hunted down and killed. Do not take your children to this movie unless you want the lasting images in their brain – Disney tries quickly erase it with “lighter” moments; however, they fail miserably. Even my two adult daughter – big Disneys fans – were tempted to walk out. This movie should’ve been rated at LEAST PG. I came away feeling very sad – NOT uplifted.
