Batman is suing ‘The Dark Knight’ ???
Well, this is unexpected but ‘The Dark Knight’ is being Sued. Yes, I said sued. If you are wondering why, it’s over the word “Batman” and how the movie did not get permission to use the town’s name Batman. Now, whether this will end up in court… that is to be debated, but don’t expect much because this case seems pretty ridiculous.

What’s even stranger about this case is that Nolan and the people behind ‘The Dark Knight’ are being sued by the mayor of the town of Batman, Turkey.
From Wikipedia: “Batman (short for Batı Raman Mountains[citation needed]) is the provincial capital of Batman Province, Turkey, also known as Êlih[1] or Iluh in Kurdish, is a city on the Batman River in the predominantly Kurdish[2][3] southeast of Turkey.”
Apparently, the mayor is suing for naming infringement and “placing the blame for a number of unsolved murders and a high female suicide rate on the psychological impact that the film’s success has had on the city’s inhabitants.”
WOW!
This is beyond absurd. Is this even possible? Was the town around before Detective Comics?

He gained international notoriety after it was revealed that he had filed a lawsuit against DC Comics for using his city’s name in their Batman Comic book franchise. In 2007, DC Comics confirmed that they had settled with the city for an undisclosed amount. In February 2008 the mayor was sentenced to 10 months in jail for promoting terrorism. Prosecutors speculated that Kalkan may have used money from his settlement with DC Comics to fund terrorism. In November 2008, the mayor again sued over the allegedly unauthorized use of his city’s name, this time filing suit against Christopher Nolan, director of The Dark Knight film.”
