‘Avatar’ Getting an IMAX Release

Submitted by Jeremy on Thursday, 6 November 2008No Comment

James Cameron just keeps making ‘em bigger and better.  It appears, now, that his next film, ‘Avatar’, is going to get an IMAX 3D release on December 18, 2009 along with the film’s wide release.  IMAX Corp. and 20th Century Fox made the announcement on Thursday.

“Our goal with ‘Avatar’ is to revolutionize live-action 3-D movie-making, and I have no doubt that it will look and sound incredible in Imax 3-D,” Cameron said. “The larger field of view and power surround sound of an Imax theater will completely immerse the audience in a way that cannot be experienced anywhere else.”

‘Avatar’ tells the story of an ex-marine who finds himself in the middle of a galactic civil war.  It will be Cameron’s first feature film since 1997’s ‘Titanic’.

The film is nearly a year away.  We should be getting a teaser trailer any day now, I would hope.
