Are you ready for a Darker Superman?

Submitted by Quin on Monday, 3 November 2008One Comment

With a lot of superhero movies coming out, it isn’t hard for people to question… Are superheroes always good? That was a question that Brandon Routh thought of during the hold-up of the sequel to ‘Superman Returns’. Now, before you start thinking “dark” as in Spider-Man, that is not the kind of dark I am referring to. Brandon’s idea is to show that Superman, or Clark Kent, has not had an easy life with being an alien foreign to this planet and also having to live among us in secret. I don’t know about you, but this idea that he has is pretty cool. I have always been about character growth and it seems in this new movie that is just the ally they are heading down.

HELLSS NO. Of all the superheroes out there I do not understand how anyone could interpret Superman as a ‘dark’ hero. And this is just the spin-off of all the money made by The Dark Knight. Superman is an alien who comes to our world an orphan, and is taken in by a kind family. Raised to be a goody-two-shoes, he could’ve had Uncle Ben’s speach “With great power comes great responsibility” and it would be is a massive load of repetition.

After his childhood he understands that people are all horrible and he must be that shining example for them to achieve. There is no way a dark superman can carry a film. I mean, I’m not a 1000% follower of all the comic books, but I’m sure by now some artist went through an arc or two where you have some evil suuperman.

I beg hollywood don’t do this, and please let Brian Singer do the sequel he was aiming for after Superman Returns, which in my opinion was the best Superman movie since Chris Reeves first put on the suit for us.
