Local Flavor: ‘Cadaverous’

Submitted by Travis on Monday, 6 October 20084 Comments

‘Cadaverous’ is a 5-minute short horror film written and directed by St. Louis indie filmmaker Dave Chapman. Dave submitted this zombie film to Project Breakout, and I have to say it’s got my attention. The St. Louis-made film features some relatively well-done special FX makeup for what I would assume is a minuscule budget. The zombies themselves offer a change in stereotypes, as they appear to be more aggressive and better etiquette than the average zombie. The mood set by the lighting is considerably effective and the soundtrack works really well. The little girl in the film is somewhat of a mystery, but actually offers an element of creepiness to the film that’s not easily defined. What makes ‘Cadaverous’ even more interesting is that this is the first attempt at making a movie of any kind by the filmmakers involved. Dave and company are now eager to turn this short into a feature-length film. They report that the script props and storyboards are already finished.

[The short was a little project we as a group did for a contest. It lost its story line on the cutting room floor but its still not bad for a bunch of people who really at the time knew jack spit about movies. We want to make a full length version of it but right now we do not have a set, we do however have a full script and story board, props and a full cast. Oh ya, no cash. lol...  We will get it done.] — Dave Chapman

You can also watch the film at Project Breakout.

The lil girl in the film( Chelsie W.)is my step daughter. She Actually was a ghost in the story who was lost in editing. She wants to keep doing the horror because she someday wants to act in a Rob Zombie film .She loves it!She was 9 years old when we shot the footage.
