Joaquin Phoenix Says Happy Trails to the Film Industry

Joaquin Phoenix is done with making movies.  The actor was seen at a Paul Newman benefit on Monday night where he made this announcement to Extra:

“I want to take this opportunity… also to give you the exclusive and just talk a little bit about the fact that this will be my last performance as an actor… I’m not doing films anymore.”

When asked if he was serious, the actor said he was and that he wanted to spend more time working on his music.

Phoenix has only one film currently in the pipeline.  ’Two Lovers’ is a romantic comedy co-starring Gwyneth Paltrow and is set for release in February.

  1. I smell bullshit. Most actors can ever turn from film and straight to music and make it. He will be back.

  2. Well good luck to him, I hope whatever he does makes him happy… but I can’t help but snicker thinking about all the struggling actors out there cursing him for turning down being an actor when they can’t seem to get a job themselves. Poor babies. Too bad though, Joaquin is a bit more fun to look at then listen too.
