Rupert Grint breaks the typecast…
MTV Movie Blog snagged an exclusive look at Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley from Harry Potter) in his new, edgier film ‘Cherrybomb’. It seems like all of the Potter kids are trying to break their children image that has come with the film franchise. We all know about Daniel Radcliffe and his nude movie/theater roles, now its just a matter of time before Emma Watson is bearing it all on screen to shed her good girl image. This from Rupert about ‘Cherrybomb’
“My character Malachy [in 'Cherrybomb'] works at a leisure center in Belfast,†Grint explained. “It’s not really a proper job, but this girl Michelle is my boss’ daughter. She’s really exotic and fashionable and she gets his attention, along with his friend Luke, and she starts this crazy competition thing between them.â€
In order to impress Michelle (who is played by Kimberley Nixon), the two guys start trying to one-up each other, first by going to a club and trying to dance with her, then by pulling stunts like stealing a car, and then things escalate from there.
“Usually, Malachy doesn’t get the girl,†Grint said. “Luke is more of the ladies’ man, but he’s a bit more dodgy. Malachy isn’t a geek, he’s a bit of a thug, but he starts off as basically a good kid. He goes to work, he has a good relationship with his parents, but he’s got some bad influences, so he gets into a bit of trouble.”
Well, we will see how good this one is, and his other more edgy indie flick ‘Wild Target’. Here is another picture for good measure:

So proud of Rupert! The movie looks and sounds amazing. I love that he’s doing things he loves and I think it will definitely break him from any stigma of being “Ron Weasley” for sure!

I can’t wait to see him in this movie. Such a change for him. I love that he’s breaking the mold and taking these different types of roles. He’s way too talented to be typecast.

Yay! SO excited about this movie! It’s going to be so good, i can tell. I’m very happy for Rupert, being a huge fan of him, all I can say is GO RUPERT! He deserves all this great roles and more recogniton from both media and people in general. I’m proud to be part of his wide fandom ;)

It’s terrific Rupert is finally getting much deserved recognition. His award winning movie Driving Lessons was awesome and proved how talented he is. His first venture into a more adult movie and a fantastic transition from HP to adult rolls like Cherry Bomb and the presently filming Wild Target. Rupert is incredibly talented and no matter how many times Dan takes off his clothes he will never match Rupert.
I’m a big fan of Harry Potter and it’s really nice to see someone like Rupert come into his own like this. I always had a feeling he would step out with his acting and bring it to another level. I respect what Dan Radcliffe is doing as well. I’m not too sure about Emma, who seems to be physically impaired by her over-active eyebrows to really come off as anything short of convincing in her acting.
Is CherryBomb being released in America? If so then I want to say that I will surely look out for it when it comes out.
what a pleasant surprise. rupert really seems to be spreading his wings. always thought he was a much overlooked talent and hope he gets to show the world what he is capable of doing. the potter films have stunted his growth as an actor, not really giving him a chance to realize his true potential. hope he enjoys the limelight that has been withheld from him for so long. way to go rupe!
rupert did look great in these pic. and the film sounds interesting enough. i think i will catch it when it is out.

I am a male and far too old to be excited by Rupert being “Hot” but he does look good in that picture.
I have admired his work in “Potter”, it was his portrayal of Ron that brought me finally to read the Potter books. He again showed talent in Driving Lessons and these new two films look set to give him a chance to prove that he can have a career beyond “Potter”
From what I have read he is a lovely guy who has not been spoiled by stardom. He has been the least recognised of the “Potter trio”and now I hope it’s his chance to prove that he has a future beyond Ron Weasley.
I have much faith that he will have a career beyond Harry Potter. I’m really looking forward to seeing his new films.

I love Rupert Grint, I have so much respect for him. Dan Radcliffe and Emma Watson get all the awards and attention despite the fact that he’s been performing circles around them since the first Harry Potter movie, but he takes it all in stride and comes off as so much more down-to-earth and sweet. I’m so happy he’s getting some interesting roles. He will come out on top, just you watch. ;)

let me just say that since harry potter and the sorcerer’s stone i have said that i am in love with rupert grint! i didnt like thunderpants so much… that perm did not do it for me…. but i loved driving lessons! i…. want to jump his bones. can i say that? well i just did. let’s just say i saved those pictures on my hard drive. ummm yeah. =D
