Review: ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ on DVD

Submitted by Ram Man on Friday, 5 September 20082 Comments

I was able to correct a huge void in my video library this week. Thank You, Disney Home Video for releasing “The Nightmare Before Christmas Collector’s Edition” DVD. I’m a huge Tim Burton fan and was utterly amazed that I did not own Nightmare. Right next to my Corpse Bride and Sweeney Todd DVDF there was a noticeable void. (I still think the wife loaned it out) But now everything is right in Ram Man’s universe, I own the Collector’s Edition of the Nightmare Before Christmas on DVD!

Nightmare is Tim Burton’s stop motion animated classic that was a smash hit at the theaters in October of 1993, now re-vamped and digitized on a 2 disc special edition DVD. The story, based on a poem by Tim Burton,is a twist on the classic Grinch that stole Christmas. This has Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Holloween, convincing his fellow residents of Holloweentown that they need to kidnap Santa and give Christmas a ghoolish make-over! As Jack prepares for his new holiday Santa goes missing again. Jack’s nemesis, Oogie Boogie, has taken the jolly old elf and Jack’s girlfreind Sally as well. Jack realizes the error in his thinking and squares off against Oogie Boogie to rescue Sally and save Christmas! The fable features the voice talents of Catherine O’Hara,Chris Sarandon,Ken Page and a score by the great Oingo Boingo lead singer Danny Elfman! This film is a joy for the entire family.

The DVD features the full length film, a digital copy to download into your computer, and loads of special features like:

* a holiday tour of Jack’s haunted mansion.

*The new uncut version of Frankenweenie, with introduction by Tim Burton (awesome!)

*The original poem by Burton Narrated by Christopher Lee.

* A short called “Vincent”.

and new behind the scenes making of documentaries and a slew of deleted scenes.

This is one of the must have holiday classics along with the Grinch, Christmas vacation and Bad Santa. Rent if you must, but i recommend throwing down a $20.00 bill and having this to own and treasure for years.
