Vin Diesel wants a return to Riddick, twice …

Submitted by Travis on Wednesday, 27 August 2008No Comment

I am a big fan of ‘Pitch Black’ and consider it one of the more enjoyable and successful sci-fi/action movies to date. I am not, however, quite as big a fan of ‘The Chronicles of Riddick’. With that said, I find myself with mixed feelings regarding this recycled news about Vin Diesel and his rekindled interest in making not one, but two more Riddick movies.

Diesel had this to say in a recent interview with MTV News:

[“David Twowy right now is writing the scripts. The only question is whether we take a page from the ‘Lord of the Rings’ guys and try to shoot the two chapters at the same time. There are two more in mind,” he said of Riddick, the Furyan warrior first introduced in the 2000 film “Pitch Black.” “‘The Chronicles of Riddick’ was presented as a three part trilogy that would answer ‘Pitch Black’ in the same way that ‘Lord of the Rings’ answered ‘The Hobbit.’”']

It may sound as if Diesel’s got a little case of delusional grandeur. From what we’ve heard so far regarding ‘Babylon A.D.’, Diesel may be itching to get another project into development before ‘Babylon’ hits the theaters and drags him into an unfortunate pitfall. Personally, I still think he’s going to be hard-pressed to outshine ‘Pitch Black’ as I felt the mystique of not knowing the full story of the Riddick character was part of the intrigue and excitement of the first film.
