Roger Ebert once again proves he is off his rocker…

We have discussed many times on WAMG about how crazy we think Robert Ebert is, and its finally coming to fruition.
He walks out on the TV show that made him so popular (why?) and now is retiring to “blogging” (leave the blogging to us, Ebert). Now he has turned in his review of ‘The Mummy 3′ … and it is SHOCKING.
The movie that is currently sitting at a generous 9% fresh (we gave it a 2/5), Mr Ebert gave it 3 out of 4 stars! Are you serious? 3 out of 4 stars is probably the most ridiculous rating you can give this movie. Next he will be giving Disaster movie 3 out 4! Here are a couple of quotes from his review:
“The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” is the best in the series, and from the looks of it, the most expensive.”
Now why did I like this movie? It was just plain dumb fun, is why. It is absurd and preposterous, and proud of it.
So it wasn’t enough for him to give it a good rating, he also goes on to say that its the best of the series. Did we watch the same movie Ebert?
We should also note that he gave ‘Swing Vote’ 3 out of 4 stars, ‘X-Files: I want to believe’ 3 1/2 stars out of 4, and pounded ‘Step Brothers’ with 1 1/2 stars. When will this madness end?

er, he hasn’t been on his show for two years because of cancer. and now Disney is retooling his show with a couple of clown reviewers, so I’ll be glad when Ebert and Roeper theoretically establish their new show elsewhere.
and hey, some of the reviews on THIS site are equally ‘crazy’, so remember reviews are SUBJECTIVE!
“The movie that is currently sitting at a generous 9% fresh(we gave it a 2/5)”
If 9% is ‘generous,’ what would WAMG’s 40% fresh be ??
BTW, what happened to the 10-star rating system – screw Bum Gurggle AKA Brett – I loved that !!
Hey, Scott… you did have “one” fan of the ten-star rating system! :)
Anyway, from someone who has a history of defending Roger Ebert, here’s my take on this… While I see where he’s going with his review, and I get what he’s sayign about it being dumb on purpose, I have to actually disagree with him on this one. Dumb is dumb, but ‘The Mummy: TODE’ was just plain stupid bad! I also have to greatly disagree with him on ‘X-Files 2′ as well.
Ah, the legend of the Bum Gurgle. may future generations never forget its lessons.
also Travis, I agree. While I respect Roger Ebert, and think Scott’s comment kinda neglects that Ebert’s work in film criticism has paved the way for a review site like ours to even exist, sometimes even big name critics ARE off on certain things. I personally disagree with his recent review on ‘Baghead’, kinda seemed like he was overly dismissive and missed the whole point. But hey, so it goes.
just curious though, are you guys saying you think Mummy 2 with the Scorpion King thing at the end is better? I haven’t seen 3 yet, but it almost seems impossible for it not to be better than the first two. is this untrue?
forget comparing it to the first 2…it’s a bad movie!
hahahaha
I’m out of town for a couple of days and ol’ Roger opens mouth and inserts both feet and his famous thumbs! Has anyone checked what drugs he’s on?? and it would be nice if he would share. Maybe he watched Pineapple express first..partook in the herb..then saw Mummy:TODE and loved it under the influence. I would be willing to try to see it his way..only if he shares his drugs! Otherwise the movie is SHIT! Brett is right..he did pave the way for film critics on TV,Radio and the internet. But when a player is past his prime and evidentally seeing things that aren’t there..they retire him. Sounds like they need some new blood in his seat.
