WAMG First Look at ‘Doubt’

Set at a Catholic school in the Bronx in 196s4, Doubt is the story of a nun who’s worried that one of her students is being abused by a priest. Starring Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Amy Adams, Doubt, based on the Broadway play that won four Tony awards in 2005,  is from writer/director John Patrick Shanley (Joe Versus the Volcano, Moonstruck). With a December 2008 release,  the film is “no  doubt” primed for the upcoming Oscar season.  What do you think  of the poster? Offensive? Controversial?

  1. I was raised Catholic, but currently none practicing. It is defiantly controversial, anything to do with child abuse is, but I do not find it offensive. It’s one of those taboo topics that is going to cause controversy no matter how it is presented. I actually saw the poster in my local theater a couple weeks ago and had no idea it was about child abuse and the church. I just noticed the cast and thought it would be interesting to see them all together.
