I think this part was overlooked in my previous ‘Casino Royale’ vs. ‘Quantum of Solace’ post so, why the Hell not make it its own discussion question. This is actually a 2 part question:

‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ Trailer

Submitted by Michelle on Thursday, 3 July 20088 Comments

Here’s a first look at the trailer for 20th Century Fox’s ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ starring Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly… It’s the story of the arrival of an alien, Klaatu, which causes a worldwide panic. I’m actually excited for this “reimagination”. The sci-fi thriller opens December 12th. Is “whoa” too much??

This looks terrible! As if it weren’t bad enough that they’re doing a remake, they add insult to injury by casting Keanu Reeves as the lead. I can’t wait to tear into this one … I predict this will be one of the worst movies of 2008.

Doesn’t anyone realize that casting Keanu Reeves in a movie is a bad idea? Or maybe no other actors wanted the role because they’re remaking a lame movie. All around I think it will be a horrible movie.

I love the original too….but you two already have it buried. I better not see any of you haters at the screening in December. Apparently Keanu can sell tickets , cuz he keeps gettin jobs.

Just cause I go to the screener doesn’t mean I’ll like it … I like writing bad reviews as much as I like writing good ones. Goes with the territory.

I don’t know if I’m a “hater” but this does look very Baddddddd! I have to say at least the Happening decieved us with trailers taht made us think the film was going to be good. This one just said to heck with it. I will be at the screening because like some other critics (not on this site) I won’t bash or praise a movie til I have seen it. Panda Hugger quit waving the Fox flag so hard!

Particularly, when you already decided a movie is bad, even before you actually saw it, isn’t, Travis?

Perhaps they should have named it “Ben Hur”. Or perhaps that will be the next really great remake for this team. How utterly lame to steal the name of a great movie and I would be surprised if this one has even 10% the merit of the first. If it is as great as the original then they should have done their effort a service and come up with a new and original name. Just lame as hell any way you look at it.
