Terry Gilliam slams ‘The Dark Knight’

There are reports coming out that Terry Gilliam is upset with Warner Brothers for how they are handling the publicity for ‘The Dark Knight’. Claiming that they are trying to capitalize on Heath Ledgers death to gain more publicity for the film with the Oscar hype.

“That’s what Warner Brothers are saying, but they’ll do anything to publicise their film. That’s just what they do and you can’t get upset because it’s bulls**t. “They’re like a great white shark which devours whatever it can.”

I can see where he is coming from and it does seem as though they are playing it up quite a bit for the movie. Everyone was excited to see it before Heath passed, but it amped up ALOT after his death. What do you guys think?

  1. The marketing campaign was set long before Heath passed away. Warner Brothers did the exact opposite Terry. They pulled the joker poster’s with Ledgers likeness (with caused them to skyrocket in price). After speaking with Ledgers relatives and everyone agreed and gave thier blessing on the media blitz. It is a tribute to an oscar winning performace and truely the finest part of the film. you can’t say Dark Knight without mentioning a scene with the Joker in it so Terry how would you market it?? Just shine a batsignal at every theater and hope people would show up?

  2. word.

  3. Brett have you seen the film yet??? Did you get into a screening???

  4. i ended up just paying for a midnight screening in Venice, but it was so very worth it. even surrounded by loud idiots with glowing phones, to the point where my money was refunded, The Dark Knight still beat them all. so intelligent and poignant and well done, a real triumph of pop culture with the power of bigger messages. all the other superhero movies this summer were lucky they were released first, even if DK transcends its ‘superhero movie’ label anyway.

  5. Scorchio says:

How can he say that, what Heath died so they have to pretend the Joker isn’t a main character and pull all promotion material. I think Mr Gilliam is full of it, WB are using Batman and Joker to advertise a Batman film, I Warner come out and say something to him, although I don’t think they need to as just about everyone who is not obsessed with Heath’s death won’t see it that way at all. Just keep your trap shout Terry.
