Tarantino Unveils ‘Inglorious Bastards’ To 4 Hollywood Studios

from Deadline Hollywood Daily:Ă‚

LA Weekly’s Nikke Finke hasĂ‚  another exclusive – this time onĂ‚  Quentin’s next film!

Ă‚

Quentin Tarantino has just goneĂ‚  out withĂ‚  his long-anticipated script about World War II. But here’s the weird thing sources are telling me: not only is Laurence Bender attached to produce Inglorious Bastards, but there’s also “a possibility” that Harvey Weinstein will be producing as wellĂ‚  but not financing it. This certainly adds fuel to those rumors that The Weinstein CoĂ‚  is having movie money woes. grondhouse1.jpgAfter all, one of the ways that The Weinstein Co attracted investorsĂ‚  was by hyping its creative connection to the Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill 1 & 2 writer/director whoĂ‚  has long made a lot of money for a lot of people. But now only Harv, and not his investors, could potentially profit from the connection? Unreal. And let’s not forget that The Weinsten CoĂ‚  produced and financed Quentin’s last pic Grindhouse/Death Proof that tanked at the domestic box office because of Weinstein’s own admission that he erred in releasing itĂ‚  in the U.S. marketĂ‚  as half of a too-long 3-hour, 12-minute double-feature.

ThisĂ‚  latest Tarantino epic, originally for Miramax and originally set for 2001, has been so long in the works that some people thought it might never see the light of day. Tarantino himself has described it as a Spaghetti Western meets World II film that’s an homage to the Dirty Dozen with aĂ‚  story about a group of soldiers on their way to be executed whoĂ‚  get the chance of a reprieve.Ă‚  I hear it’s gone out toĂ‚  Universal, Warner Bros, Paramount (all yesterday) and Sony (today). As usual, there’s a lot of secrecy surrounding this Quentin project sent out by William Morris.

  1. I can’t wait for this! The original is out on dvd next week I think.

  2. Actually 3 disc special edition hits the street on July 29th.

  3. Michelle says:

You are correct Ram Man!!! Good catch

  4. Michelle says:

Amazon: “this 1978 international smash remains perhaps the biggest and most badass war movie in EuroCult history!” I LOVE IT!!!

  5. so is his story based on Dirty Dozen, or Inglorious Bastards, the film that was released in 1978 that already was an homage/ripoff of Dirty Dozen? is he referencing both films here? the line between remake and ‘inspired by’ is getting more ambiguous every day.

furthermore, last time I checked Quentin Tarantino was not on good terms with Lawrence Bender at all. My sister interned for Lawrence Bender earlier this year, and Tarantino and Bender have some personal beef (aside from the problem of Bender being a general misogynist dickhead) so I’m surprised they’d be working together again on this, previous working history or not. who is your source on this?

Both Aint it Cool News and Deadline Hollywood Daily had the story up today today-

Brett: you’re dead on about Bender. Surprising on how some things never change…There was a time when he and Tarantino used to be close…Sharon Waxman wrote in her book ‘Rebels on the Backlot’(2006) that “Once success started to arrive, Bender always made sure that his name was inextricably linked with Tarantino’s.” People’s 1st impressions of Bender at Sundance was “a barnacle attached to Quentin.”

  7. hahaha, awesome quote Michelle.

He also kept Uma Thurman from getting a producer credit on Kill Bill despite her co-creation of the story concept, because he wanted to continue his tradition of being the only official ‘producer’ on every Tarantino film. I believe its the cause of their recent feuding, hence the lack of Bender involvement on Grindhouse, which consequently had MANY producers, haha.

  8. Michelle says:

Man..would I love to hear your sister’s stories about Bender…

  9. Michelle says:

Bender’s obviously all about “Do You know who I am” …. He went from failed actor to rich producer.
