Kate Hudson joins the cast of ‘Nine’

Harvey Weinstein is announcing he has added Kate Hudson to the cast of Rob Marshall’s adaptation of the hit Broadway musical “Nine”. Hudson is joining an Oscar alumni list of actors that include: Daniel Day Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidamn, Judi Dench and Sophia Loren.

Inspired by Fellini’s classic film “8 1/2,” “NINE” is a sultry and enchanting musical. Day-Lewis stars as Contini with his wife “Luisa Contini” played by Cotillard, his sultry mistress “Carla” played by Cruz, Kidman as his film star muse “Claudia Graham”, Judi Dench in the role of “Lily” – his confidant and costume designer, Sophia Loren as his mother or “Mamma. Hudson is set to play “Stephanie” a young American fashion journalist. Nine, when it was on Broadway in 1982, took home 5 Tony awards.

This marks the reunion of Marshall and Weinstein who last worked together on the smash Broadway adaptation  ”Chicago” (170 million domestic,300 million worldwide). Nine is set to start production this fall and due to hit the theaters on December 11, 2009.
