Hmmm... somebody needs to open their mind and read something before judging it... if you still hate it then, well that's fine.

Sorry, I don't read books for kids... if I want a REAL vamp read or watch, ill check true blood (which is about a human chick that falls in love with a centuries old vamp & must be protected by him- GASP!) or anne rice novels, the original vamp love stories. Thanks.

And I NEVER heard of twilight b4 this movie, and I am an avid reader, esp of series... I believe the hype is entirely lame and uncalled for. And the cast? Blah and bo-ring!

Ill wait for it on dvd.

I'm a big fan of "Twilight" but didn't realize just how big this whole movement was until "Eclipse" surpassed HP on the best seller list. I've become mildly obsessed with the film news and though I won't cover it on the site, I do give it all lots of love on my personal blog.

The reason for the hype: these are great stories with great characters and wide appeal. There is always the chance that the movie will suck but there is NO chance it'll bomb.

"Or a ‘wow’ you’re a crazy person for writing a longer response than the original post?"

LOL good one debbie-dub!

Debbie know what she's talking about. My teen has read all the books twice. Anytime a fourteen year old will knock off a 500 page book in one day and head to the library for the next in the series it's a good bet you've got a hit on your hands.

Hmmm....is that a good 'wow' as in: you'll read the books, visit fan based websites, write post after post in support of all things Twilight? Or a 'wow' you're a crazy person for writing a longer response than the original post?

To understand the Twilight movies "hype" you must first get a hold on the Twilight fans (fans of the book series: Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse with Breaking Dawn due out Aug. 2nd.) They are a force to be reckoned with to be sure. They are loyal and fierce when it comes to the plot, characters, Stephenie Meyer (author of Twilight), cast, crew and just about anything to do with Twilight (books and/or movie.) The fans encompass a wide demographic: tweens, teens, young adult, not so young adult, female AND male. To get a glimpse at the size of the fan base, simply Google "Twilight fan sites" and gaze at the number of sites dedicated to all things Twilight. Several sites should give you a good idea: TwilightMOMS.com (of which I am a member), their partner TwilightTeens.com and The Twilight Lexicon and TwilightGuys.com. These sites, the number of registered members and the shear volume of hits/day they receive, are a good indication of Twilights fan base and thus parlay into the 'hype' for the Twilight movie.
I would suggest a read of the series (Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse) with an open mind, to begin to understand the draw of the fans. Stephenie Meyers isn't an award winning author by accident. Her books aren't literary classics, don't get me wrong, but they have affected a huge swath of people and needs to be given her due for that accomplishment. When making Twilight, the movie, Summit understood that they needed to stay true to the books or the fan base would disappear, and disappear quickly! Stephenie Meyer was consulted on many aspects of the plot and character backgrounds, etc.
Not a reader? Well, from watching how the movie has been filmed, there is no reason to believe that the movie won't be able to stand on its own and tell the story to its full potential. It has everything movie goers could want: vampires, werewolves, forbidden love/romance, drama, comedy, action scenes (they rip a vampires head off for crying out loud!) And on top of that, they have a fabulously beautiful cast and a director with vision and insight into the books, characters and plot.
Anyway, that is just the tip of the iceberg. If, however, your blog only talks about movies that are close to being released or just released, then maybe wait until November to look into Twilight. You'll have a lot of looking to do and a lot of catching up to do, but there'll be plenty of material for you to research: MTV, Cinematical, FilmSchoolRejects.com, LA Times, /film.com, The Movie Fanatic, ReelzChannel.com, E!, Entertainment Tonight, etc., to name a few.
