Review: ‘Prom Night’
This is a new feature we are doing here on We Are Movie Geeks. “He Said She Said” is a column from a fellow Married Couple here in St Louis. They will give you both of their perspectives on movies, instead of just hearing from one side. So when you and your significant other are going out, you know what to expect for the guy, and the girl. Below is their first post, enjoy!
He Said:I agree with Andrew. The most enjoyable part about that movie was probably the crowd we were watching with. One thing that makes a mediocre slasher flick more bearable is an enthusiastic audience. I guess what disappointed me most was the lack of creativity and mystery with Prom night. From the outset you know who the good guy is, who the bad guy is, and (honestly) who is going to live or die by the time the credits roll. They could have at least been creative with the way people got killed, but they weren’t. I have to say, I have certain expectations from a bad slasher flick, and this movie didn’t even meet those. – Andrew |
She Said:Allison and I checked out Prom Night last night and like so many prom nights it was a bit of a let down. Fortunately, I didn’t expect it to be the best night of my life. Nothing was extremely wrong with the movie. The acting was fair, the shock timing was spot on, the supposedly teen-aged girls were attractive, and the very high school moments where students lamented not seeing each other again as they looked to college felt genuine enough. Where Prom Night failed to impress was innovation. It was just another slasher flick with an uninspired story. As a PG-13 movie, they also didn’t give you the guts and gore that everyone hopes for in a good cut-em-up. As I said, it wasn’t a horrible movie, just lacking any real punch. There are worse ways to spend the cost of admission. – Allison |
