Coming to DVD: ‘Opie Gets Laid’

.

Opie Gets Laid, also known as Sunnyvale, was written and directed by James Ricardo. This independent comedy is about one lonely guy who finds himself thrown into a new sexual life with several different women with “low standards.” I am actually thrilled to see this DVD when it comes out, having only seen the trailer. The film has no really recognizable stars, a commendable but clearly low-budget production value.

On the other hand, the film appears to have sharp, witty dialogue and true indie spirit … not to mention a really cool story about a virgin geek who has an incredible amount “lady luck” drop right in his lap. I laughed so much during the trailer I might have well of been watching a trailer for a Judd Apatow comedy. Opie is not an Apatow-style comedy, but more closely resembles the comedic style of Kevin Smith’s Clerks.
