I remember seeing The Valley of Gwangi when I was a kid and being wowed by the destruction of a dinosaur. I still recall being a little spooked by the man-eating dinos of King Kong. When I got older, Jurassic Park showed me that dinosaurs could still eat a human, but now they could do it in a super realistic setting.

I even owned Carnosaur on Laserdisk. What can I say? I have a thing for prehistoric beasts. 

Following the footsteps of those earlier films is 100 Million BC, a sci-fi thriller that was once meant to be a direct-to-DVD release … but no longer.

It must have made a good impression somewhere along the line, because what was once a home video release is now getting a world premiere on the Sci Fi Channel this Summer.

What? No cable? The DVD is set for release July 29, 2008.
