Y: The Last Man - Graphic Novel

Y: The Last Man is a comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, about the only man to survive the mysterious simultaneous death of every male mammal on Earth. The series has received considerable acclaim from a wide array of critics. The series was published in 60 issues by Vertigo, and collected in a series of 10 paperback volumes.– from Wikipedia

The Comic books take place during our time, when on 07/17/2002 every mammal of a male persuasion is suddenly killed, presumably by some virus, but it isn’t told specifically. The only exception are Yorick Brown and his pet monkey Ampersand. Worldwide chaos ensues as society collapses and women across the globe must deal with what seems to be an inevitable mass mammalian extinction.

Rumors are swirling openly that director D.J. Caruso (Salton Sea, Disturbia) is eager to adapt the series into a motion picture. Also being rumored openly is that Caruso may be interested in casting Shia LaBeouf (Disturbia, Transformers) as the lead. This would not be a surprise, considering Caruso has already worked with LaBeouf on both Disturbia and the coming 2008 release of Eagle Eye.

In an interview with USA Today, Caruso explains why he’s so interested in making the series into a motion picture: “For me, thematically, the most important thing and the reason I want to do this is…I don’t want to say it’s the end of the innocence, but it’s actually a man-child who has to become a real man now. I think it’s a really simple, beautiful theme, but at the same time, the movie’s really pop-culture entertainment.”
